Did your crash leave you with a head injury?

On Behalf of | Aug 8, 2020 | Car Accidents

New Jersey drivers who suffer from crashes often have head injuries to show for it. In fact, head injuries are among the most common post-crash problems. Crash victims also report frequent issues with neck and back injury. But you might not even know that you have one.

It is important to examine your symptoms closely for this reason. A simple headache might actually be the sign of a bigger problem.

Determining symptom severity

Mayo Clinic examines symptoms often associated with traumatic brain injury. Some are easy to spot, while others may not be. This is because they take several hours or even days to manifest in some cases. In others, the symptoms are so mild or “normal” that you do not notice. For example, you are more likely to miss the signs of a concussion if you have a history of migraines. You are already used to having headaches, so you do not clock pain from a head injury as anything abnormal.

Keeping your eye out for symptoms of all sorts

Other symptoms are hard to miss, though. If you are a concussion victim, you may experience brief blackout periods. Loss of consciousness can happen after the injury itself. You might struggle to fall asleep or wake up. Your sleep rhythm might end up notably disturbed.

You can also struggle with physical symptoms outside of head pain. Nausea and dizziness are common ones. You might also suffer from disordered senses, such as tinnitus, or a ringing in the ears. Sense of smell and taste often suffer from impact, too. If you find yourself struggling with any of these, you should seek medical attention.
