According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. has a higher fatal auto accident rate in comparison to the other high-income countries that were studied in 2013 (Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, France, Japan and others). Among the 19 high-income countries that were reviewed, traffic accident deaths fell by 56 percent between 2000 and 2013, while the U.S. only saw a 31 percent decrease during the same period. The CDC states that more than 32,000 lives are claimed due to motor vehicle collisions every year.
How can drivers prevent fatal accidents?
Drivers and passengers can take various steps to not only avoid accidents but reduce the likelihood of death during a serious collision. For example, the proper use of car seats, booster seats and seat belts saves lives. Moreover, drivers should always stay within speed limits, avoid distractions and only operate a vehicle while sober.
